Investigating the return of the Islamic State terrorist group

The Bondi Beach terrorist attack signalled the resurgence of the Islamic State terrorist group in Australia.

For the past two years, ABC Investigations has tracked the group's revival, identifying key figures, mapping the network and raising questions about the response of police, intelligence agencies and governments.

A major ongoing investigation led by reporter Sean Rubinsztein-Dunlop and producer Kyle Taylor is exposing the local network radicalising young Australians — and the failures that allowed IS to inspire the killing of 15 people at Bondi in December.
