Broken Hill gardeners chop down trees in battle with Queensland fruit fly

In short: 

Despite being a remote outback town, Queensland fruit fly has become endemic to Broken Hill. 

The pest began appearing in the city two decades ago as a result of weather changes and the banning of certain pesticides. 

What's next?

Gardeners are exploring different baiting and netting techniques to try to prevent the flies from returning.
