Police lecture teen caught driving 189km/h on Sunshine Motorway at midnight

A teenager who had only held a licence for two months has been caught speeding at 189km/h.
The 17-year-old was pulled over by police at 12.13am on Friday on the 100km/h Mountain Creek stretch of the Sunshine Motorway, on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane.
In a video released by Queensland Police on Wednesday, the officers are frustrated with the driver.
"Dude, we're going to be calling your parents,"one officer said.
"You've gone 89 kilometres per hour over the speed limit, and you've had your licence... what's that? Two months?
"I think to be honest you need to go home and have a long look at yourself.
"I'd probably wake your mum up when you get home and sit down and talk to her about what happened tonight.
"She's going to get a call or a visit from us and we'll talk to her."

The driver, whose voice is muted on the video, says his P-Plate "literally fell off" the car, a white Toyota 86.
Officers say the speed meant the car was travelling 51 metres per second when it was spotted by police.
"I'll bet my last dollar that your mum will sit in bed and cry when you tell her how quick you're going tonight. I'll bet on it.
"You're going to lose your licence and if I had my choice, I agree with that."
The teenager was given a fine of $1,854 for going more than 40km/h over the speed limit.

His licence was suspended for six months and he was given eight demerit points.
He was also fined another $322 for driving a defective vehicle and $267 for not displaying his P-plates.
There have been 24 lives lost on Queensland roads so far in 2026.
