Kitchen hand charged with attempted murder, stalking over alleged stabbing at Brisbane leagues club

Queensland police have charged a man with attempted murder after an alleged multiple stabbing at a rugby league club in Brisbane's inner-south.

Emergency services were called to Easts Leagues Club on Main Avenue, Coorparoo, about 5:15pm on Thursday after reports of a "disturbance involving multiple people".

A 20-year-old female employee was found at the scene with stab wounds to her head and body, while a 61-year-old male employee sustained a stab wound to the abdomen.

A member of the public — a 41-year-old woman — also suffered a laceration to her hand.

The 33-year-old alleged attacker, Cameron William Leslie Clark,  also suffered a wound to his hand and is under police guard in hospital.

He did not appear when the matter was briefly mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday morning and it has been adjourned to Monday.

He has been charged with multiple offences including attempted murder, unlawful stalking and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

'Confronting incident'

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said it was a confronting incident.

He said the man — who worked as a kitchen hand — had been excluded from the workplace hours before the attack.

"We'll be alleging that there were some behaviours in the workplace that were inappropriate that was directed towards the 20-year-old victim by the offender," he said.

"He had been subject to an internal investigation due to his behaviour at work."

Detective Superintendent Massingham said the man arrived at the club about 5pm, allegedly concealing a large knife.

"We will allege that the offender produced the knife and repeatedly stabbed and slashed a 20-year-old female employee whom he encountered initially in a hallway," he said.

"Those employees, those patrons of the club, went there yesterday to go about their daily work activities or to enjoy a meal at the club.

"We were fortunate that we had a number of bystanders that overpowered the 33-year-old male, or...I think the outcome today would’ve been very different."

'Life altering event'

A 61-year-old man employed as a chef was also injured during the alleged attack.

"Unfortunately, the interactions of the chef only slowed the offenders progress but was enough for the girl to get away," Detective Superintendent Massingham said.

"She was set upon a second time...hence the defensive injuries and the injuries to the arm and head."

Detective Superintendent Massingham said it was a "life altering" event for all involved.

"Those people that were physically injured, those people that witnessed the event, they will forever remember what occurred yesterday," he said.

"That young lady will take some time to get over what's occurred, if at all.

"What's really important is that she's in a really good place at the moment...and she's been provided with all that support that's needed.”

Detective Superintendent Massingham said police would oppose bail once the man appears in court.
