In short:

The rare Lord Howe Island stick insect, Dryococelus australis, has been found at new locations on remote Ball's Pyramid.

Once so common they were used as bait, the stick insects were wiped out on their native Lord Howe Island by shipwrecked rats.

What's next?

Lord Howe Island residents are being surveyed about plans to reintroduce the once-common "tree lobsters" to a remote corner of the island national park.
