North West Island on the Great Barrier Reef declared rat-free

In short: 

North West Island off the coast of Gladstone in the Southern Great Barrier Reef has been declared rat-free.

The invasive pests were detected on the island in 2022, with an extensive aerial and ground eradication carried out.

Visitors are being asked to thoroughly check their boats, camping equipment and any belongings when travelling to the island.
