In short:

An estimated 70 per cent of Australian homes were built before the introduction of minimum energy efficiency standards, which today is seven stars out of 10.

The average rating of these older homes is less than three out of 10.

What's next?

There are calls for it be mandatory to disclose energy star ratings at the point of the sale or lease of existing homes, as recently trialled in NSW.
