In short:

Indefinite work strikes from a group of four niche Tasmanian cardiac professionals required for daily heart surgeries has led to the procedures being cut to just two a week.

Clinical perfusionists say they are considering leaving Tasmania due to uncompetitive pay and conditions, which would mean patients having to travel to the mainland.

What's next?

The state government has approved locum perfusionists to mitigate the impact of ongoing industrial action, which is expected to continue this month.
