In short

WA consumers can expect to pay 10 to 40 per cent more for most fish following the state government's demersal fishing ban, with the rising cost of fuel also adding to the price tag.

The ABC spoke to six fish merchants who had to increase prices as a result of new fishing restrictions.

The WA government is defending the ban, saying fish had already been getting more expensive before the restrictions took effect.
