In short:

The defence minister says data collected by Australia's Wedgetail surveillance plane over the Middle East is available to the United States, opening the possibility it is helping pinpoint strikes on Iran.

The Wedgetail was deployed last week at the request of the United Arab Emirates, and the federal government maintains it is a defensive-only mission.

What's next?

The Greens have criticised the deployment, and argue an Australian asset is informing US offensive operations within Iran.
