In short:

Donald Trump has issued a blistering statement lashing NATO and other allies, including Australia, for refusing to participate in the United States and Israel's war on Iran.

The outburst has come days after the American president used social media to call on allies to help reclaim the Strait of Hormuz, though the Australian government says no formal request has been made.

What's next?

Iran's effective blockade of the strait has clogged up global oil supply and forced Australia and other nations to release fuel from their emergency stockpiles.
